getting inbound links

"Getting inbound links"
by: Jinger Jarrett
One of the most effective ways to promote your business online, especially if you use search engine optimization to build traffic, is linking. Getting inbound links.

However, as a certified Web CEO professional, and someone who also uses only "white hat" optimization strategies, I see people make a lot of mistakes when using this technique.

Below are some of the strategies that I use to make linking more effective, as well as raise my rankings in the search engines.

1. Do your homework first.
You're probably wondering what "white hat" techniques are.

"White hat" techniques are techniques that will always work with the search engines, like writing articles, blogs, and press releases, and optimizing individual pages for the search engines.

These are the primary techniques I use in addition to linking because they work.

Just ask Tinu Abayomi-Paul, the owner of http://www.freetraffictip.com. Tinu is an expert when it comes to using search engines to build traffic to her sites.

She wrote me the other day to thank me for "inspiring her". I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I do know that she uses a lot of the same techniques I do to promote my sites. She now has over 90,000 relevant entries in Google, more than a lot of the top "gurus" on the internet.

The fact is, the more pages you have listed in the search engines, and the more links you have pointing back to your site, the more likely you are to be found.

Although writing articles, blogs, press releases, and optimizing pages definitely works, you still have to do your homework. This means actually doing a search in the search engines to find out how sites get to the top, i.e. what keywords they use, how their pages are optimized, etc.

I use Alexa, http://www.alexa.com, for this because it allows me to look at traffic stats, as well as see what sites are linked to eachother.

To get started, search for the keywords you are targeting. Take a good look at the sites at the top. This includes studying the keywords, titles, and descriptions they use in their headers. Also, read the text of the pages. It's not that hard to optimize your page(s). Just write search engine friendly content that repeats your keywords. Make your content easy for your readers to read and understand though.

Now this may sound juvenile, but again, it works. Tools like Keyword Density Analyzer, http://www.keyworddensityanalzyzer.com, and Web CEO, http://www.smallbusinesshowto.com/ht/search.html, can tell you if you are on the right track.

You can also read Linking Matters, http://www.linkingmatters.com. This short, and free ebook in PDF, will give you more tips on linking.

2. Link to complementary sites.
I get link requests all the time, and I have to reject about half of them. The reason why is that I won't link to sites that have nothing to do with mine.

I offer small business, internet marketing, and search engine optimization and submission products and services. Links to quote sites, joke sites, and shoe sites don't fit with this.

The key here is to understand that not only does Google, the most important of all the search engines, look at how many links are pointing back to your site, but they also look at the relevance of the links.

Sites that are similar, or complementary to yours, give you more credibility and higher page rank than having tons of sites pointing back to you that have nothing to do with your site.

Make the links pointing back to your site relevant.

3. Choose relevant, highly searched for, low competition keywords for your anchor text.
This tip relates to tip four. Before you start sending out link requests to other webmasters, make sure that you're targeting the right keywords. Not only are a lot of relevant links important, but your keywords should be keywords that will get you traffic.

4. Change your anchor text.
Recently Google decided that links with the same text between your {{a href=""}} and {{/a}} text should be different. Too many links pointing back to your site that had the same text "looks" like spam. This doesn't mean it is spam, and sometimes, you don't have control over how others link back to your site.

However, if you decide to exchange links with others, vary your anchor text.

5. Try other alternatives to software.
Although there are many software programs out there you can use to help you automate this process, I caution you to be careful when using this kind of software. Although it may speed things up for you, you may also end up with a lot of links pointing back to you that have no relevance. Also, these programs really won't help you as much as you think if you don't change your anchor text once in awhile.

If you do choose to use software to automate the process, make sure that you personalize your emails. Again, do your homework and make sure that you are actually sending out email to sites that complement yours. No one likes to receive emails that say "Dear Webmaster".

Using a directory script on your site can help you because others can visit your site and add their links. Just make sure that you check your directory once in awhile to see who is linking to you. Also, make sure that you set up your script in such a way that others have to have a link pointing back to you first before your script will accept their site.

Link Management Assistant - http://www.dirfile.com/link_management_assistant.htm

You can also find reciprocal link exchange sites like Link Metro, http://www.linkmetro.com. Sites like this will allow you to choose your partners, search for new partners, and exchange links without being bombarded with email or generic requests.

Regardless of how you develop a linking strategy for your site, you need to develop one if you want high rankings in the search engines.

Beginners myspace marketing

"Beginners myspace marketing" -

Recently a couple of my friends where over for a party my wife was trowing when a good friend of mine Chris began chatting casually about having 2,232+ friends on myspace and how his business will grow exponentially because of this. So being a good friend, I began grinding him about his newly discovered myspace marketing venture.

Myspace as you would know by now is a social networking website that facilitates the communication between friends, relatives, co-workers etc. Just a refresher for those new in the room.

Well onto my friend Chris.

"So Chris all your 2,232+ friends live in Phoenix or what?"

"Well no most of them are from other states"

Turns out all he could conjure up was just that. Now I know myspace advertising can be a tremendous opportunity for those savvy enough to tap this resource. My friend Chris was just begging for a crash course on myspace marketing so I whipped one up for him.

"You see Chris" - And everyone out there in cyberspace.

Myspace marketing isn't about how many friends you have or even about where they are located. If they are located in another state doesn't even matter. For all I know they might have a relative that lives in phoenix and could use my friend Chri's services. What does matter is your ability to communicate effectively with this new potential customer base. And the only way of doing that is to interface with them directly.

One on One... Like they do in the movies.

Chris - "Well wouldn't that take and extreme amount of time."

It would take a large amount of time if I had 2,232 friends. See what Chris and many other internet marketers fail to realize is this. It's not the quantity of leads you accumulate but the number of quality relationships you can build.

You could be the loneliest myspace user in the world with just "Tom" as your friend. However, If you get to know Tom, inform him about your products and services on a personal level. Then chances are you would have earned an excellent human resource that will spread your marketing message for you.

Of course this doesn't mean that you should endlessly talk about politics, weather, sports with your new online buddy. A couple of messages back in forth should suffice. Once your contact asks you what type of work you do, fire up your sales pitch. Be advised, Don't come off to strong or they will notice all you want from them is to make a quick buck.

"Bottom line, learn to treat your online contacts as true friends and you will be rewarded generously by their word of mouth advertising. "

Adverse credit loans

Adverse credit loans

Keywords
sub-prime loans, credit history, non-status credit history, impaired credit, poor credit, bad credit, negative credit rating, adverse credit loans

Factors that determine a persons credit rating

Payment History - How often you pay your bills, bills paid 30 days past due date will lower your credit rating.

Leverage - How much credit you have shouldn't exceed a borrower after tax income, 15 percent each month.

Stability and Responsibility - If you've lived in your home for more than 2 years or at the same job aswell this is viewed as a sign of stability and can increase your credit rating.

Credit Maxing- Lenders don't look to well if you are reaching the credit limit imposed on your account. Try to owe no more than 1 third of your available credit.

Closing Accounts - Closing your credit accounts will lower your available credit limit score. Credit formula is calculated based on a persons available credit line vs. how much credit's a consumer has used. As you close accounts your credit score will fall. So it's best no to close those unused credit cards.

spying on your online competition

I've come upon a number of extremely valuable resource today. It will surely be a value tools to anyone who wishes for a higher google page ranking.

1. spyfu.com it allows you to key in a websites url and instantly examine its:

Estimated daily ad budget
Approximate daily click/per day
What organic keywords it ranks high for
Keywords the website has paid listing for
It's competitors both natural and ppc and lots, lots more...

2. Statbrain - Using several sources, Statbrain’s algorithm computes the number of visitors to a website based on offsite factors like backlinks, Alexa Rank etc. Statbrain does not have access to log files or any hit-counter information. Use this as a rough relative benchmark of your traffic to theirs. First run your website and compare the results given by StatBrain to your actual results to get a sense of its accuracy in your category. Figure out what the multiplier is and then try it on a competitor.

3. AideRSS - Find out which of your competitors’ blog posts and topics are engaging people. This should provide you with a list of topics you should be covering. Engagement doesn’t necessarily mean your competitor’s opinion is right or even agreed with — but it does mean the engaged people are interested in the topic and therefore why not your opinion on the topic.

4. FeedCompare - If you use Feedburner to track your rss subscribers you can compare the size of your feed to others. Just like in #1 above, figure out your own multiplier and then compare it to the competition.

5. Xinu Returns - Xinu Runs a report from multiple sites to tell you how well a site is doing in popular search engines, social bookmarking sites and other technical details. How well are you stacking up against your 5 biggest competitors?

6. Google Trends For Websites - Enter up to five topics and see how often those topics been searched on over time. Google Trends also shows how frequently your topics have appeared in Google News stories, and in which geographic regions people have searched for them most. You can learn more on how to use this from our friend, Avinash Kaushik.

7. Google Insights for Search - With Google Insights for Search, you can compare search volume patterns across specific regions, categories, and time frames. Again, Avinash explains how to use this well.

8. Microsoft’s Keyword Forecast tool - This tool forecasts the impression count and predicts demographic distributions of keywords.

9. Microsoft’s Search Funnels - Customers often perform searches by typing related keywords in specific sequences. This tool helps in visualizing and analyzing the customers’ search sequences. Search Engine guru Mike Grehan explains the value of these query chains.

10. WayBackMachine - Go back in web history to see how your competitors’ site has changed through the years. Look for the things that have stayed consistent, because those might have been the most successful. In the same vein, what have you changed on your own site during that time? It’s easy to lose track, particularly of your own work, and to think of your current site as “how it’s always been”.

11. Web Page Speed Analyzer - Compare the download speed of your pages with those of your competitors to see which are loading quicker. Quicker loading pages tend to have an advantage at converting visitors. This analyzer provides a detail analysis of the page elements. For a rough comparison of two pages side by side try WebSlug. And, WebWait is great when you want to get accurate speed results from the visitors perspective because WebWait pulls down the entire website into your browser, so it takes into account Ajax/Javascript processing and image loading which other tools ignore.

12. Web Page Readability - By comparing the readability score of web pages you can optimize your writing and make sure that you aren’t creating overly complex sentences and paragraphs for your audience.

13. Attention Meter - Attentionmeter gives you a quick snapshot comparing any websites you want (traffic) using Alexa, Compete, and Quancast.

14. Websitegrader - Website Grader is a free tool that measures the marketing effectiveness of a website. It provides a score that incorporates things like SEO, social popularity and other technical factors. It also provides some basic advice on how the website can be improved from a marketing perspective. Also worth checking out Twittergrader to check on your competitors’ twitter accounts.

15. Google Alerts - set up searches for your competitors, key employees, and keywords to monitor their activity.
